Strength Based Approach

Strength Based Approach

A film project to find what good looks like in the field of Domestic & Sexual Abuse Support.

Shining a light on good practice.

The strength-based approach is focusing on the positive attributes, of a person or a group, rather than the negative ones.

We encourage our service users to focus on what's working while acknowledging everything that's wrong. We would like this to be the same methodology with service providers. Inspiring others the good attributes & good working practice, whilst also ensuring their own mental health is supported.

Our project works with people impacted by domestic and/or sexual abuse, through art and various expressions, to share what worked for them in the support they received. This has been put together in a short film, which was launched at Colab on 25th May 2022. The film can be used in education programs for services delivered throughout Devon and possibly further.

Thank you to all who contributed to the project that we hope will improve the responses of professionals to those experiencing Domestic and Sexual Violence & Abuse and its aftermath.

As victims and survivors, you will understand that those responses often fall short of what is needed. To respond to this we made the training video that expresses ‘what good looks like’, ‘what worked well’ and how professionals can be more like that.

We hope making this film will inspire and empower professionals to improve their practice.

We invite you to contribute in variety of ways. Coming together to share positive feedback, what worked well & what good looks like, through art, poetry etc any way that survivors would like to share in our Strength Based Approach Film, with the use of actors, or speakers where people feel more comfortable in sharing.
